Hair trends of 2019 – Perspectives of top salon stylists  and experts

2018 was the year of experimental shades and “baby bangs”. It was the year of the buzz cut cruising the red carpet. With individual expressions on the boom, 2019 looks to be another year of fun explorations into the realm of the self according to the predictions of hair experts.

  1. Blunt bobs

A revival of the 70s bobs fueled by popular celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Karlie Kloss, the short hair is expected to go a long way as the standout hairstyle for 2019. Influential hairstylist and Ghd ambassador, Zoe Irwin, noted this shift. “I think we will see a move away from shattered and layered hair towards a blunter, sharper finish”, said Zoe. “I envisage it being a shift away from the mid-length boyfriend bob, which was so popular last season, to something more precise and above the shoulder, roughly halfway between your ears and the nape of the neck.”

Zoe continues that the blunt cut is very versatile in focusing and flattering the face while giving the stylist an ability to either thicken thin hair or soften already thick hair. In fact, done correctly, “it will do wonders for your bone structure and is often the gateway to an even shorter ‘do.” However before you ride the blunt bob train, talk to your hair stylist on how to adapt it to your needs.

  1. Grey Hair

Aging is in. Age-inclusivity is flourishing in the beauty industry, whether it’s dyeing the hair a fashion-forward silver or embracing the already natural grey hair. Interest in going grey has ballooned in Pinterest by over 850 percent. Redken’s global creative colour director Josh Wood explains how to manage the flood of grey in 2019.

“Work with a colourist to try to get the hairline as light as your natural grey. If the eye sees the lightest colour against the face it will give the appearance of being totally grey.” The key Wood notes is to then using a glossing service like the DIA Richesse service at L’Oréal Professionnel salons nationwide, to subtly decrease any patchiness.

Wood also suggests to cut your hair shorter to expose “more of the natural color and grey”.

  1. Super-Straight

Love it or loathe it, the polka-straight hair of the early 90s is backaccording to Frankie Moody, senior hairstylist at Jo Hansford Salon.

“Curls and waves are out” says Frankie, “so make sure your straighteners are up to the challenge”. Bazaar recommends Ghd’s Original Styler (but we also recommend embracing your natural texture and go with “your” straight flow!).

  1. Adult Accessories

Hair accessories have stolen the limelight recently owing to extreme heat of the summer months. From the humble hair clip to more statement bows and ribbons, hair accessories and their sophisticated versions will only grow in popularity predicts Irwin.

As people start wearing their hair up, Irwin believes the versatility of accessories will be key in 2019 noting that “the accessories differ in shape and style, they all can be adapted to a multitude of looks.” She recommends Syd Hayes’ high-fashion pins and Ashley Williamson’s diamante clips.

Seeing as though the biggest hair trends for this year include a variety of different styles, it’s safe to say there is pretty much a style suitable for anyone. So go ahead and make your appointment with your stylist now to get ready to give your mane (and yourself) a reset in 2019.

Styles and trends of gray man hair

2019 is the year of the gray hair. From the shorts to the longest, we see the best cuts and nuances for men and boys.

Movie superstar George Clooney has, without doubt, one of the most sophisticated looks in Hollywood. A  grey man hair look which only seems to get better as he ages. The unanimous reason for his enduring appeal is the silver fox effect of Clooney’s graying hair. Welcome to gray mania.

2019 is the year of the graying hair. It gives the Clooney effect to men of all ages. That’s right, it doesn’t matter how old you are, as long as you have some salt and pepper effect to your hair, and with the right haircut, you will set for some additional attention in your daily life.

Short gray hair

The current fashionable trend of the high shade and the short side tuft works very well with the silver hair as it creates a pleasant contrast with the dark beard and eye color. Gray is ideal for short haircuts.

If you are over 50 and lucky enough to have a thick silver foliage, the classic short cut faded to the sides with a messy lock of hair can take years off your looks.

If you are the type who prefers the Michael Douglas look in the film the American President, fear not, the gray tone on the classic style, line and tuft with wave, is a winner. Note, this style needs to be managed with the comb and appropriate hair products.

The short wavy hair with some side nuance helps create a youthful look, but it’s important to balance with a bit of shabby-style beard which makes the difference.

For a medium length cut, it’s important to manage the hair with a little modeling wax or a styling spray.

Just arrange the tuft backwards and create a deliberate unkempt look.

If you have thin or fine hair or if your age is 50 or over, coiling of hair begins. So it’s probably best to opt for a very short cut at the sides for a cleaner look.

If you have fine or sparse hair, it’s not a bad idea to keep it clean with a side line and the shade with long side burns. This gives a fresh and tidy look, just like the talented 64-yr old Massimo Ghini.

The hipster hair style is also good for mature men, as portrayed by Instagram’s symbol of masculine elegance, the 58 year old Nick Wooster. The important thing is that the hair shaves have to be well kept.

Even the unkempt and disheveled looks of the likes of billionaire Bill Gates or soccer superstar Roberto Baggio works well now that they have the natural gray in their hair.

Gray hair man cuts long and medium long

For a middle-aged man, long hair can add a special charm, especially with a trendy cut like the Pompadour combed to the side.

Think of Richard Gere with the long silver hair behind the nape.

Even though long hair may not be the easiest to handle, one can always wear it deliberately scruffy like the super model Aiden Brady.

And for those who do not want to part with their long hair, just make sure to use the necessary styling spray products for a tidy foliage.

Gray hair boys: styles and trends

While gray hair is common for the mature man, it is not limit to them. The trend of silver is also strong for young men and boys who prefer to dye their hair and capture some of the Clooney effect.

The combination of the silver hair with a younger cut, such as a shaved bowl cut on the sides and nape, merges the best of both worlds.

It’s official. The trend of the gray haired man has begun and looks set to continue. Just remember that getting the right hair style is part of the effort and it’s equally important to choose a shampoo that makes the hair shiny and seemingly healthy gray. Blackberry Hair – A Great New Look That’s Perfect For Brunettes

Despite its name, blackberries are seldom purely black. In fact, young black berries actually start off with a lighter red color. It’s only when blackberries ripen that their color changes to a deep, dark, purple hue.

This hue, it turns out, is the perfect shade to complement dark hair, especially brunettes. Thus the blackberry hair was born.

Berry Good

Unlike the brighter hair shades, this deep purple hue has a lot going for it. For one, it doesn’t require a platinum base to shine. On top of that, it works well on darker hair that have some highlights. Plus, it is easy to maintain, doesn’t require constant touch-ups and it looks great.

“Our client came in telling us that she was a busy mom who needed low-maintenance color that was still fun” . Our stylist’s answer was blackberry. And it seems straightforward enough to recreate, so you can request it at your next appointment.

How To Get The Look

First, it’s necessary to achieve just enough balayage highlights. Following which, Schipani used Lanza Vibe which is a “violet with a hint of blue.” She then painted the new hue over her client’s lightened locks.

Do leave the roots untouched so the colour is low maintenance. Finally, she capped it off with Trauma Treatment and oil to keep strands healthy and add shine.

And Voila! Take a look at the pretty results below:

The key with purple hues is to match the shade to the client’s skin tone, so keep that in mind for your next appointment.

Kansas stylist, @nikthehairchik on Instagram, shared a blackberry hue she’s done—also on a brunette.

And another stylist, @laura_johnson33 , showed off the subtle blackberry hues she’d painted onto a client’s dark locks.

Perfect Pair

If you follow the latest hair trends, you may have come across Schipani’s name already. Not long ago, she created oh-so-craveable peanut-butter-and-jelly hair. This “hair sandwich” hue also uses berry tones, but adds in natural brown tones for more variation. Check out the fabulous results below:

Glow Getter

Schipani’s latest Instagram creation is a stark contrast to the much more wearable blackberry shade. Inspired by the Pantone color of the year, she also shared this day-glow ultraviolet bob. Sunglasses are definitely necessary for this vivid shade, which is actually a wig. See for yourself:
